About the role
Forterra is hiring a Quality Inspector to join our growing team in Clarksburg, MD. While the position focuses on electrical inspection, we’re open to individuals without formal inspection experience who demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, or hands-on manufacturing experience interpreting drawings and build-documentation. Candidates with a mechanical inspection background and an interest in learning electrical inspection are also encouraged to apply. At least one hire should hold a current IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification, while the other roles may be filled by candidates who meet the above qualifications and are eager to learn in a fast-paced, quality-driven environment.
What you'll do
- Perform electrical, visual, and mechanical inspections on wiring, cable assemblies, enclosures, and related components.
- Conduct first article, in-process, receiving, and final inspections to ensure compliance with design and quality standards.
- Use basic precision measuring tools and electrical testing equipment (Multimeters, Micrometers, Calipers, etc.).
- Document non-conformances (NCMRs), assist in root cause analysis, and support corrective actions.
- Verify product quality against IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 2 standards where applicable.
- Review labeling, part markings, and dimensional tolerances for compliance.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to improve inspection processes.
- Maintain accurate records in ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite).
- Interpret blueprints, technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Follow ISO 9001 procedures and Forterra quality standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience in quality inspection within electrical mfg enviorments or an individual with MFG experience that's able to quickly learn and certify in IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certification and down the road IPC/WHMA-A610 Certification.
- Familiarity of IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 2 workmanship and ISO 9001 quality standards.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency with inspection and test tools (multimeters, calipers, micrometers, etc.).
- Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 and/or IPC/WHMA-A-610 certification.
- Prior experience inspecting wiring harnesses, enclosures, or electromechanical assemblies.
- Familiarity with first article and in-process inspection procedures.
- Hands-on experience with root cause analysis and nonconformance documentation (NCMRs).
- Proven ability to collaborate across production, engineering, and quality teams.
- A proactive mindset — someone who takes ownership of quality and continuously looks for improvement opportunities.
US Salary Range
$25 - $30

The salary range for this role is an estimate and is based on a wide variety of compensation factors. The salary offered to candidates will vary based on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) relevant work experience, education, specialized training, critical expertise, training, and more. Equity in Forterra is included in most of our full-time, high-demand roles and is therefore considered part of Forterra’s overall compensation package.
