The Position

We’re looking for a deeply crypto-native research and investigations analyst who will produce high-quality research insights and conduct thorough investigations for our clients. Reporting to the Head of Investigative Services, you’ll be responsible for analyzing onchain and offchain data to formulate findings related to market abuse and onchain cyber threats and the economic consequences of those activities.

Our ideal candidate will be comfortable synthesizing data ranging from public order book transactions to onchain DEX swaps, using both Solidus’ proprietary software as well as public / open source tools. You’ll be as comfortable querying and analyzing data as you are synthesizing your findings in both visual (data storytelling) and written form. As research analyst you’ll be expected to produce both immediate responses (e.g., following a major DeFi protocol manipulation) as well as longer term insights following a more structured agenda around the pillars of market abuse and onchain threats that form the core of Solidus’ product suite. You’ll thrive in this role if you have a deep understanding of the crypto and Web3 ecosystem and actively follow and learn new primitives or categories (e.g., block-building, re-staking, decentralized order books).

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will be twofold: to conduct research and to execute investigations for public sector clients, specifically:

  • Conduct thematic research and produce institutional-quality reports related to market abuse and downstream economic impacts within the crypto ecosystem.
  • Research and analyze crypto project tweets, blog posts, DAO forum chats, and white papers to identify economic or security risks and supplement primary analysis
  • Produce brief insights related to notable current events by playing “crypto-twitter bounty hunter” and onchain data analyst.
  • Conduct complex investigations related to market manipulation, insider trading, or onchain threats in response to inquiries from Solidus’ public sector clients.
  • Conduct data analysis on large data sets (both onchain and offchain) and work with our R&D team to define and productionalize key data insights and internal tools.
  • Develop presentations to effectively communicate investigation findings to internal stakeholders and public sector clients.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years professional experience minimum in a research or analysis role, either in a technology, academic, or consulting setting
  • Familiarity with the crypto ecosystem a must, either through a previous role or personal interest / research
  • Researcher mindset: ability to query and analyze large data sets, to synthesize data into findings, and to communicate results in both written and spoken form.
  • Experience delivering a final research product or deliverable in a professional or academic context, whether a published report, academic paper, or final consulting deliverable.

Nice to have

  • Experience in investigations and trade surveillance as part of a financial services firm or a capital markets regulator
  • Experience in derivatives trading, order management systems, marketplace processes and back-office operations
  • Proficiency in basic data querying languages such as SQL, Python, or equivalent, essential for efficient extraction, manipulation, and analysis of data sets.
  • Experience building financial / economic models
